Doofus Of The Day #747

Our first Doofus award of 2014 goes to two larcenous youths in Collingdale, PA.

MOST TEENAGERS do dumb things. But not trying-to-rob-Joe-Galiano dumb.

Galiano is the owner of Suburban Armory, the gun shop on MacDade Boulevard in Collingdale, Delaware County. There is a giant gun-shaped sign on the roof. Inside, Galiano is surrounded by guns, including the .45-caliber pistol on his hip. Can't miss it.

And the police station is just around the corner from the shop.

Despite these conspicuous crime deterrents, two teenagers nonetheless decided to throw on burqas and pull a silver handgun on Galiano about 1:40 p.m. yesterday in a botched attempt to stick him up, police said.

There's more at the link.

Needless to say, the robbery attempt went very badly.  Mr. Galiano got off one shot, that missed, but the teens ran from the store and were arrested in different locations later.  One was described as 'sweating badly'.  I'm not surprised!

It's amazing how many criminals make really dumb decisions about who to target.  This incident reminds me of the Darwin Award winner who, in 1990, tried to rob a gun shop filled with armed staff and customers - including uniformed police.  He didn't survive the attempt.

Gun stores in that part of PA are robbed with some regularity. I know one were they never touched the cash register and only took pistols.

The one I worked at was never touched because we had multiple armed employees and we were all shooters.

That's my neck of the woods. Can't say I'm really surprised; most folks around here don't understand the concept of self-defense, i.e. the idea of using force against an aggressor to protect one's self is completely alien to them. It's sheeple central around here, and my guess is that these punks figured Mr. Galiano was just another sheeple. Yet one more reason why I'm getting the [BLEEP!] out of here as soon as I can afford to move.

Sounds like Mr. Galiano needs some range time... dammit...

Yep. Another fine example of an acute failure in the target selection process.

Maybe it's just as well that the two perps weren't shot dead. Had they been, they might have been buried in the cemetery 2 blocks away. I wouldn't want that to happen, because my mom's Uncle Jack, who is already there, deserves far better.
